Default design
The user-supplied reviewer-certificate-sample.html is the default for any journal where reviewer_certificate_html is empty. It includes an SVG decorative background, gold/red seal, separate publisher logo and journal cover, reviewer recognition text and journal information.
Journal Administration
- Navigate to Journal Settings → Templates → Reviewer Certificate Template.
- Check Active Certificate first, then choose Preview Active Design to see the actual saved journal design. A SHA-256 fingerprint distinguishes different uploaded templates.
- Choose Download Active Template to obtain the custom template actually saved for this journal, or Download Default Sample for the built-in template. Do not confuse the two options. The publisher image and journal cover source links should be written as dynamic template tags, not static CDN URLs.
- Upload your revised
.htmlor.htmfile (maximum 1 MB). The server sanitizes the markup and saves it for this journal. - Preview after upload and test with an actual completed review account.
- Select Use Default Certificate to clear the journal-specific override and return to the supplied default design.
Supported placeholders
{{reviewer_name}} · {{journal_name}} · {{publisher_name}} · {{manuscript_title}} · {{manuscript_no}} · {{review_date}} · {{certificate_id}} · {{publisher_logo_url}} · {{journal_cover_url}} · {{publisher_website_url}} · {{journal_submission_url}}.
Reviewer use
After a review is completed, the reviewer dashboard shows Recognised Reviewer Certificate with only View Certificate and Download Certificate. The view page is headed CERTIFICATE OF REVIEWER and includes Back to Dashboard plus Download Certificate. Download Certificate creates a one-page A4 landscape PDF in the browser from the active HTML/CSS/SVG certificate design and available journal/publisher branding. The certificate artwork itself contains no Print/Save or HTML-copy controls. If a custom template is invalid, the app displays a correction notice rather than silently issuing the default.
Security and limits
Only a reviewer assigned to the completed review or authorized journal editorial administration can obtain the certificate. Uploaded templates are restricted to safe HTML, CSS and SVG; scripts, forms, event handlers and arbitrary remote resources are rejected. Journal-specific branding images are resolved through the current application's approved journal/publisher asset routes. The historic basic PDF endpoint (?format=basic-pdf) uses a separate simple layout and cannot reproduce custom HTML styles. Existing custom templates remain in place on upgrade.
Deployment: From v2.5.1 update to v2.5.2 using the UPDATE-ONLY archive. Back up first and preserve configuration/storage. No database migration is needed.
